Matthew Arnold

1822 - 1888

Matthew Arnold was one of the great English poets of the 19th century. The son of Thomas Arnold, the formidable “Doctor” who was the Headmaster of Rugby School depicted in the novel Tom Brown’s Schooldays, he worked as an inspector of schools.
