George Chapman

1559 - 1634

George Chapman was an English dramatist and translator. His translations of Homer were praised in a famous sonnet by Keats “On first looking into Chapman’s Homer”: “Then felt I as some watcher of the skies/When a new planet swims into his ken”. Pantheon Poets includes his translation of the opening lines of the Odyssey, with a link to the original in the Greek section.
