Joachim Du Bellay

1522-60

Joachim Du Bellay, 1522-60, wrote some of the most famous poems in the French language. He was a member and spokesman of La Pléiade, a group of writers who saw it as their mission to develop French into a language which could match Latin and Greek as a medium for literature.
